ESI CONVERTS EXISTING DIESEL ENGINES TO NATURAL GAS BY MANUFACTURING THE ENGINE FROM THE BLOCK UP (MORE DETAIL LATER).  WE LITERALLY EVOLVE THE DIESEL ENGINE INTO A NATURAL GAS ENGINE, AS THIS SLIDE DEPICTS. WE ARE CURRENTLY WORKING WITH INTERNATIONAL ENGINE CORES.
BRIEF HISTORY:
EARLY WORK ON THIS CONVERSION CONCEPT WAS ACCOMPLISHED BY OUR CTO, JIM BURKHART, SEVERAL YEARS AGO, ON MY SHOP FLOOR AT TRANSTAR(A SUB OF ENSERCH) IN DALLAS. HE CONVERTED A DT 466 INTERNATIONAL LEGEND ENGINE TO NATURAL GAS.
THIS LED TO EPA AND CARB CERTIFICATION OF THAT ENGINE IN 2001 (EPA-ULEV CERT OF CONFORMITY; CARB-EXECUTIVE ORDER); THAT ENGINE GENERATED 640 LB-FT OF TORQUE @ 1800 RPM AND DEVELOPED 250 HP, AND IT WAS CERTIFIED TO 1.4 G/BHPHR NOx.
CONCURRENTLY AT TRANSTAR, WE RECEIVED $3.5M OF CMAQ FUNDS TO CONVERT 100 COCA COLA TRUCKS TO CNG.  WE ONLY DID FOUR DUE TO THE ACQUISITION OF ENSERCH BY TXU, AND THIS PROJECT WAS NOT COMPLETED.  HOWEVER, THESE FOUR TRUCKS ARE OPERATING IN THE COKE FLEET SUCCESSFULLY TODAY.
IN LATE 2002 ESI WAS INCORPORATED, AND IN EARLY 2004,  WE BEGAN DEVELOPMENT OF THE NEWER GENERATION OF THE ENGINE DESCRIBED ABOVE, WHICH WE HAVE SUCCESSFULLY ACCOMPLISHED. WE HAVE RECEIVED EPA CERTIFICATION (DISCUSS LATER). WE ARE NOW WORKING ON THE EIGHT-CYLINDER VERSION, AND WE SHOULD BE GOING TO SwRI APP MID-NOV FOR ENGINE TESTING PRIOR TO SUBMITTAL TO EPA AND CARB FOR CERTIFICATION OF THAT ENGINE.
WE ARE ALSO CURRENTLY EVALUATING A PROPANE ENGINE PLATFORM, AND WE WILL ALSO CONSIDER THE CONVERSION OF OTHER DIESEL ENGINES TO GASEOUS FUELS AS WE GO FORWARD.
THIS IS OUR OFFICE AND R&D LAB IN MCKINNEY, TX, A SUBURB NORTH OF DALLAS.  WE  HAVE 5,400 SQ FT IN THESE TWO SUITES.
OUR STRATEGY:
WORK IN THE EXISTING VEHICLE MARKET BY REPLACING (EXCHANGING) OLDER, WORST POLLUTING  DIESEL ENGINES WITH OUR SPARK-IGNITED, DEDICATED NATURAL GAS ENGINE USING OUR PATENTED TECHNOLGY, WHICH INCLUDES HARDWARE AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY.
OUR TARGET FLEETS INCLUDE SCHOOL DISTRICTS, MUNICIPALTIES AND OTHER GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, UTILITIES, AIRPORTS, FOOD/BEVERAGE DELIVERY FLEETS, AND OTHER INTRA-CITY FLEETS—ANY FLEET WITH AN INTERNATIONAL DIESEL ENGINE.
WE WORK CLOSELY WITH FUEL PROVIDERS, WITH SELECTED INTERNATIONAL TRUCK DEALERS AND WITH OTHER COMPANIES PROVIDING VEHICLE UPFITTING AND NATURAL GAS FUEL TANK FABRICATORS/INSTALLERS. OTHER COMPANIES PROVIDE ENGINE COMPONENTS AND MANUFACTURE OUR ENGINE TO OUR SPECIFICATIONS.

HOW DO WE DO IT?
BY DESIGNING KEY COMBUSTION COMPONENTS WITHIN THE ENGINE TO OUR PATENTED TECHNOLOGY, AND INTEGRATION OF STATE-OF THE-ART ELECTRONIC CONTROLS MAPPED TO MEET ON-DEMAND ENGINE PERFORMANCE AND EMISSIONS.  AGAIN, THIS IS A DEDICATED NATURAL GAS ENGINE.  WE CRYOGENICALLY-TREAT ALL INTERNAL HEAT-BEARING ENGINE COMPONENTS TO IMPROVE ENGINE DURABILITY;
OUR PROCESS IS NOT A CONVERSION, IT IS NOT A RETROFIT, IT IS NOT AN AFTERMARKET DEVICE, IT IS NOT EVEN A REMANUFACTURING PROCESS.  IT IS A NEW ENGINE USING AN EXISTING BLOCK WITH A FULL TWO YEAR PARTS AND LABOR WARRANTY. PER THE EPA AND CARB, WE WILL BE CLASSIFIED AS AN OEM.  THERE IS NO ONE ELSE IN THE INDUSTRY THAT ACCOMPLISHES THIS MANUFACTURING PROCESS STARTING WITH AN EXISTING ENGINE CORE AND TARGETING THE REPLACEMENT MARKET TO THE EXTENT THAT WE DO TO PRODUCE A DEDICATED NATURAL GAS ENGINE.
OUR GOAL IN EXISTING FLEETS IS TO ACHIEVE THE LOWEST POSSIBLE EMISSIONS WHILE PROVIDING DIESEL-LIKE PERFORMANCE WITH OUR QUIETER HEAVY DUTY NATURAL GAS ENGINE. OUR ENGINE CAN ALSO BE INSTALLED IN NEW CHASSIS’.

Tulsa Public Schools (TPS) Proposed ESI Phoenix NG 7.6L dedicated natural gas engine—This engine was demonstrated live at their “billion gallon” event.
OUR CURRENT ENGINE: GENERATED 820 FT-LB OF TORQUE @ 1345 RPM, AND 265 HP @ 1915 RPM; THE OLDER ENGINE MENTIONED PREVIOUSLY IN THE COKE FLEET GENERATED 640 FT-LB OF TORQUE @ 1800 RPM AND 250 HP.
